I swear this is car related.
I love my job. I’m a driver for Enterprise rent a car. Who wouldn’t like to spend their days shuffling back and forth between cars with that kind of variety. But in trying to get back to work this summer, I’m at a bit of a loss.
My problem is this: My semester ended two weeks ago tomorrow. The branch I was working at was without a manager at the time, so one of my coworkers talked to the area manager who told me to send an email to the support staff manager guy (no idea what his actual title is). This support staff guy proceeds to read my email (I know because I always use read receipts because I’ve had problems sending email to internal adresses from my external account before), didn’t respond, and forward it to a woman in HR whom I have a very good relationship with and was going to contact anyway...like the schmuck he is. So then she tells me, “yes, of course, don’t worry, we love you, your boss (who unfortunately got fired in January) always spoke so highly of you. Of course you’re still employed.” She even put me on full time this summer so I can work all the hours I want to. She then passes the buck back to the staff manager to make me a schedule, and he’ll contact me shortly. A few days go by, to the Friday before last. I send an email to my HR friend, I needed my W-4 and I said the guy still hadn’t contacted me. She said she would reach out to him again the following Monday. Monday comes, I faxed her my tax documents. Nothing. I send her another email last Thursday at noon, she says she will call the guy and he will be in touch that afternoon or first thing on Friday, she swears he will get it done. And of course, nothing on Thursday afternoon, nothing at all on Friday. So I sent this staff manager another direct email yesterday, disguised as an assurance he had my correct contact information, just hoping to jog his memory. And nothing came of it yesterday, and it has now been 24 hours.
I don’t want to keep annoying my friend in HR, she’s got enough on her plate as it is without me breathing down her neck. But this guy is completely non-responsive and from what my old boss said on multiple occasions, only capable of delegating. Anything he is told directly to do himself, doesn’t get done. He survives by shirking his responsibilities to other people. I’m employed. I’ve got full time approval. I just need a schedule. And I need to start working now, ASAP, because my keeping the S600 is completely dependent on how much money I can pay back my father on that little catastrophic failure of the ABC hydraulics.
So, how do I diplomacy?

Go visit his ass and hand him your shit - ask if there’s anything he needs from you in order to get you on schedule, and that you’ve been waiting to work for XX amount of days but he has not put you on schedule yet.
